The skinification of hair is the latest trend in hair care where we see popular ingredients in skincare benefit our hair and scalp. It’s just as important to exfoliate and hydrate your hair as it is to your face, so we’re diving into one of the most popular ingredients seen in cult beauty products: hyaluronic acid.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic Acid is a natural humectant (molecules that attract water which can help increase moisture in your skin and hair) that leaves skin supple and hydrated. For hair and scalp, this deeply hydrating ingredient helps to lock in moisture and control frizz.

Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid for Hair

This skincare staple can be beneficial for all hair types by helping to bind moisture to the hair and skin/scalp. Formulas that include this ingredient can help to:

Lock in moisture - The humectant properties of this ingredient work to penetrate dehydrated hair strands and retain the moisture it needs to be healthy and nourished.

Control frizz - There are several causes for frizzy hair, one of them being dryness. Hyaluronic acid works to tame unwanted frizz by sealing the cuticle with moisture.

Balance scalp - Your hair’s health starts at the root. When your hair is treated with hyaluronic acid, as mentioned above it binds to your skin/scalp to hold in moisture that it’s been missing, keeping your scalp restored and balanced.

What Hair Type Benefits the Most from Hyaluronic Acids?

Hyaluronic acid is a universal hydrating ingredient, but it's especially beneficial for dry, frizzy, or chemically treated hair. If your hair tends to feel or look frizzy, lack moisture, lack hydration, hyaluronic acid helps restore hydration by attracting and retaining water in the hair shaft.

Those with high porosity hair (prone to moisture loss) will see noticeable improvements in softness, manageability, and hydration. Even fine or oily hair types can benefit from hyaluronic acids because it is lightweight and won’t weigh down hair.

How to Use Hyaluronic Acid

There are many uses with hyaluronic acid within the beauty space, and it’s best to check iin with the usage as directed by product. For hyaluronic acid for hair, try using our H2-Whoa! We conduct and ensure every product passes HRIPT (human repeat insult patch testing), a personal care industry-standard clinical test used to validate that the product does not have an association with skin irritation or sensitization.
